The usual friendly atmosphere of Beckindale is disrupted by an anonymous villager who makes malicious phone calls accusing the vicar of misconduct. Annie and the Reverend Hockley himself both receive such calls but attempt to remain aloof from any scandal. But fuel is soon to be added to the fire of suspicion. Dolly Acaster, whose relationship with Matt is blossoming fast, desperately needs somewhere to live, because Amos is forcing her to leave the Woolpack. The vicar offers her a home at the vicarage - but this incoent invitation only leads to more whispered rumoursthat threatened to destroy not only Reverend Hocklry but also the friendship between Matt and Dolly. |
A stranger appears in Beckindale and at last a secret from Dolly's past has caught up with her. Richard Roper, an old flame has come to win dolly back - by fair means or foul. Matt is thrown into confussion, and as the full story of dolly and Richard's relashionship comes to light, it falls to Annie to try and sort out their problems. Annie also has another mystery to solve - the theft of a prized cricket trophy that, more than anything else, causes tempers to rise and hearts to be broken in Emmerdale. |

The squire has died and it looks as if the heir will sell the Verny estate. Included in the sale is a piece of land which has always belonged to Emmerdale Farm but the lawyers have found a loophole. One of the buyers is discovered to be David Annersley, whom Annie Sugden once knew well... Amos Brealy, celebrating twenty -five at the Woolpack, is very interested in the sale. Many of the buyers are staying at the Woolpack and there is a mystery about one of the heirlooms, which only Amos can reveal... |
